A Schuylkill County couple vacationing in Florida remains on standby as meteorologists continue to track the projected path of Hurricane Matthew.

As the monster storm marched toward Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas, nearly 2 million people along the coast were urged to evacuate their homes Wednesday, a mass exodus ahead of a major storm packing power the U.S. hasn't seen in more than a decade.As of this morning, Jay and Leslie Gilbert, of Coaldale, were staying at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa in Bay Lake, Florida.The couple's flight to come home has been canceled because of the storm."We had planned to come home tonight," Jay said. "We're hoping to make it (home) sometime Saturday, but we're not sure yet."Jay said things didn't appear out of the ordinary despite what's expected to come."Right now, it looks like a normal day," Jay said. "It's calm, the parks are still open, looking at the monorail running right now. I do see a few more maintenance guys walking around, haven't heard of any park closures at this point."The calm before the storm? Perhaps.Jay said the couple has travel mugs, which are refillable for up to two weeks. As part of that, every drink, such as soda, water, coffee and tea are included."We talked to the front desk, and they said they are going to continue operations here just as they normally would," he said.The Associated Press contributed to this story
