From behind the camera to in front of the computer

Oh my! The sports guys stuck a photographer in front of a computer to bang out this week’s grid picks column.

As you might have noticed, I’m slowly moving to the right in the list of head shots above. That’s not the way I want to go. I was perfectly happy sitting in first place, but two weeks ago Brad Hurley’s perfect week pushed him ahead of me — moving me into a tie for second.Last Friday night, I was feeling pretty confident with only three losses at the end of the night. The shocker came when I checked the scores from the Saturday games to see that I went 1-2. Rod Heckman moved ahead of me by one game and Patrick Matsinko leap frogged me to create a three-way tie for first place. I’m one game out with Andy Steinmetz and his panel of pickers.Let’s see what happens this week.BLUE MOUNTAIN AT JIM THORPE ... Both teams enter Week 6 with only one loss, however I think the Eagles may have had a bit tougher road to get here ... Blue Mountain 35-24.NORTH SCHUYLKILL AT LEHIGHTON ... Lehighton’s coming off a big win in their annual “Bo Tkach Under the Helmet classic” against Panther Valley. North Schuykill is also coming off a big win against perennial powerhouse Mount Carmel. I give the edge to the team with the extra day of preparation ... Lehighton 28-21.MARIAN AT PANTHER VALLEY ... Although it seems just about every team around here considers a match-up against the Colts as a rivalry game, this game is definitely one of the biggest ... Marian 35-14.POTTSVILLE AT TAMAQUA ... Tamaqua is coming into the meat of their schedule after a tough loss last week and will face a much-improved Pottsville squad. The Tide bring a 4-1 record to Stadium Hill Friday night ... Pottsville 32-21.PEN ARGYL AT NORTHERN LEHIGH ... Pen Argyl is coming into Northern Lehigh after a big victory last week against Northwestern. The Green Knights continue to roll ... Pen Argyl 35-13.SAUCON VALLEY AT NORTHWESTERN ... The defending Colonial League and District 11 champions, Saucon Valley, head to Northwestern Friday night for what’s sure to be a hard-hitting cat fight ... Saucon Valley 42-28.PALMERTON AT NOTRE DAME ... Notre Dame got a huge boost last year after the closing of Pius X. Not only did they gain quite a few star players, but also added a seasoned coach in Phil Stanbaugh. Notre Dame continues their undefeated season ... Notre Dame 42-12.EAST STROUDSBURG SOUTH AT PLEASANT VALLEY ... Both of these teams are capable of putting a lot of points on the board. This football game has the chance of turning into a track meet ... Pleasant Valley 49-35.FREEDOM AT EMMAUS ... Emmaus is surprising some people this year. Not only are they undefeated through five games, they are averaging more than 52 points per game so far this year. Emmaus will continue to win, however their average points will dip ... Emmaus 42-21.MAHANOY AREA AT SCHUYLKILL HAVEN ... The Golden Bears travel to Schuylkill Haven Friday night for a league match-up. The undefeated Hurricanes will continue their run at a perfect season, and they’ll do it with their ground-and-pound offense and stingy defense ... Schuylkill Haven 42-7.POCONO MOUNTAIN WEST AT ALLEN ... While both teams are athletic, they haven’t had the best of years. The Canaries picked up their first victory last week, but I think the Panthers will get their first victory this week ... Pocono Mountain West 21-14.SALISBURY AT PALISADES ... Both teams have had ups and downs this season with Palisades taking the edge in ups. The Pirates will have another up this week over the Falcons ... Palisades 35-13.SHENANDOAH AT MINERSVILLE ... A couple of teams that are having rough years are meeting up Friday night in Minersville. The Blue Devils are still searching for their first win. They won’t find it this weekend ... Minersville 28-6.WHITEHALL AT PARKLAND ... This game is going to depend on which teams show up. Will the Zephyrs who beat Easton show up, or will it be the team that lost to Nazareth? I’ll give the nod to the Trojans based on consistency ... Parkland 28-24.WILSON AT CATASAUQUA ... Both of these teams have faced some of the toughest competition the Colonial League has to offer with limited success. The edge goes to Catasauqua, who have already had a taste of victory ... Catasauqua 21-7.
