Mayor Christopher Olivia announced at Thursday’s borough meeting that a donation will be used to help outfit a Palmerton police vehicle with a special sensor.

The $500 donation came from First Northern Bank, and will be used for a special sensor that can help keep police safe in a number of scenarios.“It’ll be on the new police car. Say if they’re out on a stakeout, and somebody sneaks up behind them and they have the windows open, it puts them up and locks the doors,” Olivia said.Other mattersBorough council announced a new hire, as well as a change in employment, at Thursday’s regular meeting.The borough approved the hire of Tyler Price as a temporary seasonal employee. Price will serve as a part-time leaf collector at the rate of $9.50 an hour.Several college students who worked for the borough over the summer will also help with leaf collection.Additional part-time positions will be advertised in the near future.Kim Rodrigues has been approved to move to a full-time position within the borough. Rodrigues has been working with the borough since 1995 in a part-time position, handling accounts receivable and payroll primarily.Rodrigues’s pay rate has been set at $18.77 per hour, along with the addition of full-time benefits.
