Carbon County court - drug cases

Several defendants offered guilty pleas in Carbon County court before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Ronald Edward Lighting, 41, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on Nov. 20, 2015, along East Musmano Avenue by Nesquehoning police.Matika imposed a fine of $300 and costs.Jason Sean Reed, 42, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and theft.He was arrested on Sept. 1, 2015, by Mahoning Township police for an incident along Swiss View Road in which he took a wishing well decoration from the property of Sharon McCroskey. He was arrested later for the charge and when taken into custody drug paraphernalia was found on him.On the theft charge Matika sentenced him to serve three to 12 months in prison and one year probation of the drug count. He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, render 50 hours of community service when released on parole and have no contact with the victim. He was given credit for three days spent in jail on the charge.He will serve the remaining time on consecutive weekends beginning Sept. 30 at 5 p.m. and serve it in three-day increments.Robert Joseph Pistorius, 58, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on July 9 in the 200 block of West Mill Street by Summit Hill police.Matika imposed a fine of $300 and costs.Megan E. Rhoades, 21, of Hazleton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on Nov. 22, 2013, along East Main Street by Weatherly police. She was found to be in possession of heroin. A possession a controlled substance with intent was dropped. She was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked for violating conditions.She told Matika she completed an inpatient rehab program since the incident.Matika imposed a fine of $300 and costs.Angelea Nikkole Schlier, 25, of Lansford, pleaded to one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and theft by deception, in separate incidents.She was charged with the drug count on March 19 by Lansford police in the area of 323 E. Bertsch St. Crack cocaine was found. The theft charge was filed by Lansford police for an incident on April 4 at East Ridge Street. She took a credit card and made purchases with it at the Walmart store in Mahoning Township.She was placed on probation for a year on each count, running concurrently, and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, render 50 hours of community service and make restitution of $101.70.She spent 28 days in a inpatient rehab program and must continue current counseling sessions.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation of parole.
