Man hit by falling rock at Glen Onoko

A man hit in the head by a falling rock Sunday at Glen Onoko Falls in Jim Thorpe was alert and talking when crews brought him to safety, according to officials at the scene.

Jim Thorpe Fire Chief Bill Diehm said the man, likely in his 40s, was near the second falls when the incident took place.“We had some of the medical guys go up and some of our guys and they brought him down in the Stokes basket,” Diehm said. “He was sitting up and talking, but his head was bandaged up.”No name or hometown has been released for the man, who was with three or four other people at the Glen.Crews were called to the scene at 12:23 p.m. and left at 2:40 p.m.“It was one of our quicker ones,” Diehm said. ”It was a pretty light crowd there yesterday.” Jim Thorpe, Nesquehoning, Lehighton and Lehigh & Lausanne companies responded to the call.Lehighton EMS transported the man to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.
