A total of five defendants in drunken driving cases recently entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence charges in Carbon County court.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted pleas from the following:Lucas Robert Johnson,22, of Freeland was arrested on April 24 by Weatherly police along Main Street. A test revealed a 0.16BAC.Sentencing was deferred so he could apply for the Intermediate Punishment Program.Diane Marrero,36, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on April 19, 2014 along Route 209 by Nesquehoning police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. She was previously placed in the Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked for violating conditions.Sentencing was deferred so she could obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.Nicholas George Dietz,21, of Summerville, South Carolina, was arrested on July 19, 2015, by state police at Fern Ridge along Interstate 80 in East Side Borough. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so he could obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.John Stephen Pavliga,80, of Dunmore, Luzerne County, was arrested on June 4 by Kidder Township police along Route 903 in Lake Harmony. A test revealed a 0.12BAC.Sentencing was deferred so he could get a drug and alcohol evaluation.Jerome Samuel Zemlan,51, of Allentown, was arrested on July 3, 2015 by Lansford police along West Patterson Street. He refused a blood test.He was sentenced to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $300, license suspended for a year, render 25 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use.He was given credit for 45 days spent in jail on the charge and paroled.
