Restaurant owner found guilty on all counts

Tamaqua restaurateur Alfonso Picone has been found guilty of stealing $315,000 from an elderly couple.

A jury returned a guilty verdict against Picone, 46, Thursday afternoon.

Jurors found that Picone stole the money from an elderly couple from Lake Hauto who had entrusted him with their finances. The alleged crimes occurred between August 2013 and December 2014.

Picone is the co-owner and manager of La Dolce Casa Restaurant in Tamaqua.

As a result of the conviction, Judge William E. Baldwin increased Picone's bail to $100,000, and ordered him to turn over his passport.

Picone will remain in the custody of the Schuylkill County Sheriff until he hands over his passport.

Picone showed no emotion when the verdict was read, but he tearfully hugged his parents before he left the courtroom.
