On Tuesday the Penn Forest Township Board of Supervisors met in a special meeting to adopt a resolution which grants them the authority to proceed with filing an application for an LSA grant for completing the 903 Recreation Park.

The Local Share Account money comes from taxes collected from area casinos. The closest casino to Carbon County is the Mount Airy Casino, which is located in Monroe County. Under the LSA grant program, surrounding counties have an opportunity to apply for the grant money as well as the host county.The township is currently in the final steps of completing Phase II, which includes all of the athletic fields and the tennis and basketball courts. The contractor is in the process of putting in the final touches, paving and fences at the time.Phase III will be the last of the planned phases in completing the project.The final phase will include a concession stand with covered patio, a septic system and Ada-compliant bathrooms. The plans currently call for the building to be 25 feet by 41 feet and will cost $519,318.The grant application will request 85 percent of the expected cost. The township approved a motion to supply 15 percent, which is $77,898, to the project.The resolution will permit the township engineer to complete and submit the grant application.Supervisors Scott Lignore and Judy Knappenberger were not present for the vote.
