Parking changes approved for planned Gerrity's

Chestnuthill township's board of supervisors approved a Conditional Use Application, as well as a change to the parking spaces, for a proposed grocery store in Effort.

The board passed the Conditional Use Application of Mount Effort Development for "Large Scale Retail/Commercial Development," which will be the location of a new Gerrity's Supermarket."After you're over a certain size, a certain square-footage in the shopping complex, the ordinance requires them to go through the Conditional Use process, just because of the magnitude of the project and the impact it can have on surrounding areas," solicitor Tim McManus said.Originally, the application called for 583 off-street parking spaces and an additional 151 reserved off-street parking spaces. Instead, Mount Effort Development will construct 612 off-street parking spaces with no additional reserved spaces."They said, 'Look, instead of doing the reserve, we know we're going to need 600 active spaces, so let us do that instead,' " McManus said.
