Jim Thorpe high school evacuated for threat

Jim Thorpe Area High School was evacuated as a precaution due to a threat on Tuesday.

"At approximately 11:45 a.m. today, we were informed of a suspicious threat in a lavatory. Once informed, we employed our crisis procedures to evacuate our students to a safe location. Local police, state police, Carbon County EMA and fire departments all assisted and supported us throughout the event," Superintendent Brian J. Gasper said in a statement.A single K-9 unit, led by Ryan Trego, was brought in as well.Students and staff were sent to the high school's football bleachers to wait while the authorities investigated the supposed threat.Due to the timing of the event, some students did not have the opportunity to eat lunch.At about 2:20 p.m., the building was declared clear and students were brought back to the building. Food and drinks were provided, with Gasper thanking the cafeteria staff for serving the meals in a short time frame."We would like to sincerely thank our faculty, staff, students, parents, emergency personnel, and community for assisting us in maintaining the safety of our school community," Gasper said.
