CROP Walk set for Oct. 9

The Lehighton Interfaith Fellowship is coordinating the local CROP Walk on Oct. 9. The walk will be held at the Lehigh Canal Park in Weissport.

The walk is 1 mile or 4 miles along the canal. A walker needs to receive a sponsor form from their local church or call Shirley Radler at 610-377-4278. Organizations are welcome.Registration on the day of the walk is from 1 to 2 p.m. The walk starts at 2.A CROP Walk is a community hunger appeal of Church World Services to raise funds to support hunger programs locally and around the world. Locally, 25 percent raised will be given to the Trinity Food Pantry, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton, and 75 percent goes to Church World Services for its ongoing relief programs, self-help and development programs. The Trinity Pantry received $741.30 from the funds raised in 2015. The Trinity Pantry is a satellite of Shepherd House Inc., Carbon County's food distribution system.Church World Services held the first CROP Walk in 1965. Life held its first CROP walk in 1992.
