Woman arrested for credit card scam in Tamaqua

An Easton woman has been charged by Tamaqua police for her part in a scam operation involving credit cards.

Officers were called to Boyer's Food Market on Cedar Street at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 3, after a woman made multiple attempts to purchase gift cards using different credit cards. Store personnel provided a description of the woman and the name she used: Tori Marshall of Connecticut. After being unable to purchase any gift cards, the woman left in a white Dodge Charger with a Virginia license plate. The car was stopped minutes later in the area of Broad and South Railroad streets. The driver of the car was Victor Davis, 26, of Brooklyn, New York. A records check found an outstanding warrant for his arrest issued by Whitehall Township police. The back seat passenger was identified as the woman who was in Boyer's. She told police her name was Ashley Freeman, despite using a credit card in the name of Marshall at the store. She became uncooperative with police when the records check came back with no information on either name. After being stunned with a Taser, she was taken back to the police station where she told officers her name was Mariya Saxon, 30, of Easton. She said she gave a false name as there was a warrant for her arrest issued by Northampton County police.Police searched the Charger and found, among other things, a Canon printer, a laptop computer and a credit card scanner.Saxon and Davis were turned over to Lehigh County authorities and face charges of fraud and theft by unlawful taking.
