DOWN WITH THE OLD

Crews begin the process of tearing down the old Route 903 bridge in Jim Thorpe. The structure has been replaced with a new $28 million bridge named in memory of Sgt. Andrew "AJ" Baddick, who gave his life while saving fellow soldiers from a vehicle that had overturned while on patrol in Iraq in 2003. A small community effort was mounted to save the bridge but both Jim Thorpe borough council and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation wanted it to be torn down for safety reasons.
