Vehicle stops lead to drug arrests

Two separate vehicle stops along Interstate 80 in Carbon County by state police at Fern Ridge led to the drivers being cited for drug related charges.

The first stop occurred on Sept. 2 at 11:29 a.m. at the Carbon/Luzerne county line. Anthony Michael Gutierrez, 25, of Youngstown, Ohio, was stopped for an expired registration. Upon investigation numerous indicators of criminal or suspicious activity was detected by troopers. A consent search of the vehicle was granted and found was a small amount of marijuana and three Molly (MDMA) pills. He was placed under arrest on a charge of possession, processed and then released.The second stop occurred around 5 p.m. on Sunday in East Side Borough. Joshua Wayne Pollitt, 27, of Mansfield, Tioga County, was stopped for following too closely. Troopers detected indicators of criminal activity. A consent search was granted and found was 100 oxycodone 15mg pills. Pollitt was taken into custody and charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and related offenses. He was placed in the county prison in Nesquehoning pending arraignment.
