The Friends of Beltzville State Park are inviting the public to get outside, and enjoy some art, at their first-ever “Art in the Park” celebration Saturday.

The event, which includes art, music, and activities for children, will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. around the park’s Environmental Interpretive Center.Friends President Diane Szwajkowski said the idea of the event is to present art inspired by nature in a natural setting, and of course let people know about the park.“It’s about promoting art and nature, and getting people in the out of doors,” Szwajkowski said.The all-volunteer group started small for their first show, but the event will include both fine and performing art.“It’ll be small, but mighty,” Szwajkowski.Throughout the event, singer-songwriters from the Godfrey-Daniels Listening Room in Bethlehem will be playing acoustic folk music.Seven artists and crafters will be displaying their nature-themed work for sale. A percentage of each piece sold will benefit the park.Kids and adults will also have a chance to make their own craft while learning about recycling.The park’s educator, Cindy Kurtek, will be on hand to do demonstrations. Szwajkowski said she could also recommend a good hike for attendees to do after checking out the art.The event is free to the public.The Friends of Beltzville State Park is an all-volunteer nonprofit dedicated to educating the public about the park and raising funds for events and projects.Throughout the year they hold cleanups and events at the park, including a “Beltzville on the Move” challenge.For more information about the organization, visit the Friends of Beltzville State Park on Facebook.“It should be a nice mix of education, music, and art to see.
