Police nab Schuylkill man wanted for assault

A Schuylkill County man, wanted for assaulting a woman repeatedly in a wooded area of the county last month, has been apprehended.

State police at Frackville said Christopher Erwin Benjamin, 34, formerly of West Mahanoy Township, was taken into custody Wednesday in the area of Raven Run and Lost Creek roads in West Mahanoy Township.On Aug. 28 troopers obtained a felony arrest warrant for aggravated assault for Benjamin following incidents that occurred over a two-day period of Aug. 27-28.According to troopers lateAug. 27 and earlyAug. 28, Benjamin repeatedly beat a 31-year-old woman and threatened her life if she left a wooded area near 94 Raven Run Road in West Mahanoy Township.With the woman was her 4-year-old child. Troopers said the beatings occurred over the Saturday-Sunday time period until she managed to make her way to Raven Run Road, where she was able to get help from neighbors. An ambulance was called and she was taken to a hospital for treatment of what troopers said were serious injuries.After the incident, troopers got the arrest warrant from District Judge Christina Hale of Frackville and had been looking for Benjamin ever since.
