Carbon County Judge Steven R. Serfass recently imposed sentenced on five defendants who previously pleaded guilty to driving under the influence charges.

Robert Bruce Rimbey Jr.,61, of Blakeslee, was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail followed by 59 months in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program with the first 60 days on electronic monitoring. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500, his license was suspended for 18 months, and he must render 100 hours of community service. He was given credit for 28 days.He began serving the remaining two days at 6 p.m. Sept. 9. The IPP will be supervised by Monroe County.Rimbey was arrested on Oct. 25, 2014, along Route 903 in Jim Thorpe by state police at Lehighton. A test showed 0.19 BAC.Dustin R. Clewell,29, of Nazareth, was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail followed by 59 months in the IPP with the first 60 days on electronic monitoring. He must also pay a fine of $1,500, his license was suspended for 18 months, and he must render 100 hours of community service.He began serving the jail term at 5 p.m. Sept. 11 and will serve it Sunday to Wednesday until all 30 days are served. Northampton County will supervise the IPP.Clewell was arrested on Jan. 1 along Route 248 at Bowmanstown by state police at Lehighton.Daniel Adam Jacobus,33, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve 30 days in the county prison followed by 59 months in the IPP with the first 60 days on electronic monitoring. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500, his license was suspended for 18 months and he must render 100 hours of community service. He began the jail term at 7 p.m. Sept. 9 and will serve it on consecutive weekends.He was arrested on Sept. 6, 2015, along Second Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Joseph John McHale,59, of Scranton, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,500, his license was suspended for 18 months, and he must render a total of 150 hours of community service. On a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia he was placed on probation for a year, concurrent to the DUI charge. He began the jail term at 9 a.m. Sept. 8.He was arrested on March 15, 2015, along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Terence Lamar Moore,29, of Lansford, was sentenced to serve 30 days in the county prison followed by 59 months in the IPP with the first 60 days on electronic monitoring. He must also pay a fine of $1,500, his license was suspended for 18 months, and he must render 100 hours of community service. He was given credit for 28 days. He began serving the two days remaining at 6 p.m. Sept. 9.He was arrested on Nov. 26, 2015, along Maury Road in Penn Forest Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Other sentencesThree defendants were recently sentenced on driving under the influence charges in Carbon County court.President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II imposed the sentences on the three, who previously entered guilty pleas to the charges.Earl James Zuellig II,45, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced on two counts of DUI.He was placed on probation for six months on the first count and ordered to pay a fine of $300.On the second count he was sentenced to serve five days to six months in prison, pay a fine of $750 and his license was suspended for a year. The sentences run consecutive to each other.He was arrested on the first count on Jan. 2, along Route 534 in Penn Forest Township by state police at Fern Ridge. The second arrest occurred on March 11 along Route 903 also by Fern Ridge troopers. Tests revealed a 0.14 BAC in the first arrest and 0.17 BAC in the second.He will begin the jail term at 7 p.m. Sept. 16 and serve it on consecutive weekends.Jeffrey Michael Ecklof,31, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve 30 days in prison followed by 59 months in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program with the first two months on electronic monitoring, pay a fine of $2,500 and his license was suspended for 18 months. On a summary motor vehicle code violation he was fined $25 and costs. He was given credit for 29 days already spent in prison on the charge.He was arrested on Jan. 29 along Route 2015 by Franklin Township police. A test showed 0.27 BAC. The term runs concurrent with a prison term he is currently serving in Northampton County.Paul Mathews II,28, of East Stroudsburg, was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300, and continue his mental health counseling. He was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked for violating conditions.All three must also follow all recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.Drug caseTyler Perez Lafeir,27, of Easton, was sentenced to one year probation on a charge of possession of a controlled substance - heroin. He as arrested by state police at Lehighton following an incident on Sept. 3, 2014.He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow all recommendations and zero tolerance imposed for drug and alcohol use.All four must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
