Tamaqua Borough Council was not ready to adopt an ordinance that would ban parking along the egress route from the South Ward Fire company, much to the dismay of fire officials who attended the meeting this week.

The ordinance, which would ban parking on the western side of Oak Street, between Van Gelder and Spruce streets, was approved for advertisement at last month's meeting.However, it was not advertised for long enough before this meeting for council to vote on it.South Ward Fire Chief Mark Bower expressed dismay that it would not be finalized until well into football season, which he called the biggest problem. Council agreed to pursue temporary parking restrictions in the area until the ordinance is finalized.Council also discussed a white line that was painted by a borough resident on Hunter Street. John Sinkewiecz, a resident of the area, requested the removal of the line."It's a safety issue," he said. "If a driver follows that, he will hit the curb. Someone painted it. You can't go painting your own traffic lines."Acting Borough Manager Rob Jones said the borough will look into painting over the line.Jones said the borough will purchase of a handicap lift with a larger capacity for the Bungalow pool.He said there are some administrative details to be worked out, but the lift will be installed by next swim season.Council held an executive meeting to discuss personnel matters.
