Crews extinguished a fire at a home near Palmerton on Wednesday afternoon, but not before it caused extensive damage.
What caused the fire is still under investigation.The fire broke out at a home on Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township around 3 p.m.Aquashicola-Lower Towamensing Fire Department responded as well as personnel from five other municipalities. Aquashicola-Lower Towamensing Chief Bill George said that when they arrived on scene, the fire was shooting up through the roof of the home. Windows were also blown out.The homeowner was home at the time of the blaze, and called 911.He described the firefighting conditions as "brutal" due to the 90-degree heat that was recorded outside."These guys did a great job. They're trained, they knew to come out and rest and send someone else in," he said. "They did well under the circumstances."Fire companies from Walnutport, Towamensing, Palmerton, Franklin Township, and Bowmanstown also responded to the blaze.
