A Carbon County inmate faces additional charges after he punched a cell window and damaged it.
On Aug. 8, Nesquehoning police were called to the prison for an incident that happened two days earlier.Prison staff told police that inmate Rodney Rider, 35, of Center Street, Jim Thorpe, admitted punching a window on max block cell 1A, causing the glass to splinter in the frame.Rider said that he punched the window with his left hand, adding that he forgot he still had his ring on, which led to the damage.Officers asked why he punched the window, to which he replied that another inmate put their face against the window.Damage to the window is estimated at $458.Rider was charged with institutional vandalism and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek at 1:45 p.m. today.
