Five injured in Hauto rollover crash

Emergency responders used hydraulic rescue equipment to cut open an SUV and free trapped occupants, all of whom were injured, in a one-vehicle crash Tuesday not far from the village of Hauto.

Units were dispatched at 7:15 p.m. to the area of 686 Hauto Highway, just west of the Schuylkill-Carbon County line in Nesquehoning.According to those at the scene, a tan Ford Explorer XLT was traveling eastbound when it apparently veered off the roadway, traveled down an embankment and flipped over. The vehicle came to rest in the woods on its side amid trees and tall brush.Three occupants were taken to a hospital and the other two victims were airlifted to trauma centers. A landing zone was set up at the Nesquehoning sports complexTraffic was halted in both directions for about an hour.Fire departments from Hauto, McAdoo, New Columbus, Nesquehoning and Hometown responded.Ambulances and rescue units were summoned from, Nesquehoning, Tamaqua, McAdoo and Lehighton.Nesquehoning police are investigating.
