Prepare for a seismic correction in our geopolitical world on Nov. 8. The American people will declare that it is payback time for disregarding their will. The Republican Party will suffer a universal defeat for the sins of their leadership. Specifically, for the inability to grasp that the bulk of the American people are intelligent, honorable, aware of the country's problems and how to deal with them and have faith in the future of the country.

That the candidate they chose to support and promote for president is a mere caricature of a reasonable human being. That their squabbling House and Senate majorities are used to thwart governance. That their negative position on the reality of environmental degradation demonstrates a juvenile stubbornness.That the inequities in basic economic resources among the population allowing the influential, clever/greedy to plunder our economy is criminal. That universally accepted gun control proposals go unsupported.The failure of the Republican Party and the success of the Democratic Party in this election are systemic. They have little to do with the strength of the candidates selected to represent their respective parties. However, accepting a Donald Trump to champion their cause exposes the sorry state of Republicanism today.Two signs from an August view help support these contentions. Poll numbers from throughout the United States including historically Republican enclaves indicate movement away from the Republican fold. Additionally, the increasing positive poll numbers for the Obama presidency indicate an appreciation for his governing efforts through eight years of negligible Republican cooperation.John DruryJim Thorpe
