Man threatens employees in an attempted robbery

A Monroe County man is behind bars for an attempted robbery at a supermarket in Mount Pocono.

On Thursday, Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department arrested Ahmed Nabil Darwish, 27, of Mount Pocono, for attempted robbery, aggravated assault and terroristic threats.Police said Darwish was arrested as a result of an investigation into an attempted robbery that took place at 6:07 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Weis Supermarket, Route 940, Mount Pocono.Darwish attempted to steal money from the cash register drawer in the check-out line where he told the clerk he had a gun.After being confronted by a second employee, Darwish pulled out a larger butcher knife and threatened the second employee.Darwish was charged with attempted robbery, aggravated assault, simple assault, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and related charges.He was taken into custody at the Monroe County Courthouse after he was sentenced on another case.Darwish was arraigned by Magistrate Phillip Riley, and then taken to the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $250,000 bail.A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Sept. 15.
