Carbon County court - DUI

Two defendants entered guilty pleas in drug-related cases on Thursday before Judge Steven R. Serfass in Carbon County court.

Michael Juan Castro, 45, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on April 17 by state police at Lehighton following a vehicle stop along Route 209 in Lehighton.Serfass placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 50 hours of community service.Kevin John Gieniec, 32, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on Jan. 25 when Jim Thorpe police, on routine patrol, found him in a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence along Flagstaff Road. Police knew the vehicle did not belong at the residence.Upon speaking with Gieniec, officers smelled the odor of marijuana. In exchange for the plea the district attorney's office dropped charges of criminal trespass and possession of marijuana.Serfass placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.Gieniec is currently an inmate in the county prison on other criminal matters.Castro and Gieniec were also ordered to pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
