State police at Lehighton are investigating a bizarre crash which has closed Route 895 in East Penn Township this morning.
The crash occurred at 5:30 a.m. as a tractor trailer was traveling east and failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.The unit entered the right berm where it hit and snapped off a utility pole. The rig continued on re-entering the roadway crossing both lanes entering the north berm.The truck struck another pole continuing on through heavy brush over 100 feet off the roadway. After traveling several hundred feet it came to rest on a lawn and driveway of a home.State police escorted the ambulance carrying the driver to the hospital. Route 895 is closed to traffic.The rig is from Franzosa Trucking Company Hazleton, carrying municipal waste to a transfer station in Walnutport.
