Tamaqua group holds lantern vigil tonight

In honor of National Overdose Awareness Day, the group Safer Streets for Tamaqua's Little Feets is hoping to "light up the night" today with a lantern lighting vigil at the former CVS building on East Broad Street. The event will be held from 8-9 p.m.

The group was created in response to an increasing number of drug overdose deaths in the area and raising awareness of the problem as well as offering help and support for those caught up in the nightmare world of drug abuse.Members are keeping the issue in the spotlight with events such as the lantern vigil and cleaning up areas where drug use is suspected.They also participate in events sponsored by the Schuylkill County Drug and Alcohol Services, which is holding an Addictions Awareness and Recovery Solutions Event from 6-9 p.m. Thursdayat Martz Hall in Pottsville. Guest speaker will be Chris Herren, a former NBA player who is in recovery for opiate addiction and has become a motivational speaker.Both events are open to the public.
