August 31, 1985 - Tamaqua's defense forces four turnovers and doesn't allow a point as the Blue Raiders gain an opening-night 21-0 victory over Mount Carmel. Tom Butterworth completes 7-of-10 passes for 86 yards in his first varsity start and also runs for a touchdown. Garth Lakitsky carries 20 times for 64 yards, and opens the scoring in the first quarter with a 6-yard TD run. The winners, coached by Tom Bonner, also receive a scoring run from Chris Boyer and two interceptions on defense from Kevin Maurer.
