The 26th and final Chris and Kevin Truskey Memorial Run was held Saturday morning at Tuscarora State Park.

Wayne and Pat Truskey of Tamaqua are the parents of three boys, Chris, Kevin and Matt.Life was normal until one day in 1990, when their oldest son, Chris, died in a car crash.The annual Chris Truskey Memorial Run was the idea of coach Ray Edwards, who approached close family friend Wendy Dunkelberger after the tragic loss of Chris.“Although at first we were apprehensive about the idea of a run, Wendy convinced us this was a way to keep Chris’ memory alive and to benefit area runners,” Pat said.All three of the Truskey boys were members of the Tamaqua Area cross-country team during their high school years.With the help of Jim Thorpe’s cross-country coach Drew Benyo and Tamaqua’s cross-country coach Larry Lech, the annual Chris Truskey Run was born in 1991.In October 2002, the Truskeys were hit with another tragedy, the death of their second son, Kevin.The race was renamed to include Kevin.When asked why this is the last year for the run, Pat and Wayne, in their own strong and confident demeanor, look at each other and simply say, “It’s time.”“We’ve prided ourselves on doing the run with only volunteers. We do our own timing, registration and color coding. By doing it ourselves, it allows us to give 100 percent of what we raise to the scholarship winners.”The resultsThe overall winner in the female category is Monika Shimko from Tamaqua with a time of 20:23.
