An elderly Carbon County woman was the victim of what police call a "granny scam."

State police at Lehighton said a 77-year-old from Towamensing Drive, in Towamensing Township received a phone call that her grandson was in an accident and needed bail money to get out of jail.The woman used Western Union to send $2,400 to a false address.The incident was reported at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
