Human skeleton found in Gouldsboro

Skeletal remains were found in a wooded area near 7 Mile Road in Gouldsboro on Monday morning.

The discovery was made by an ordnance recovery worker employed by AECOM, who was in the Tobyhanna area recovering military ordnances and debris. The Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department and Pennsylvania Game Commission confirmed that the find was consistent with human remains. The surrounding area was searched by detectives, the Forensic Services Unit of the State Police, and the Monroe County Coroner's office in order to locate any additional remains or evidence, although reportedly nothing else was found. The investigation is currently focusing upon whether or not the remains are that of Richard McClain, a 55-year-old man who disappeared on May 27, 2016. McClains's vehicle was found approximately three miles away from the remains on Plank Road, with his diabetic medication inside. Despite several weeks of searching, McClain was never found. An anthropologist has been arranged to examine the remains and determine the identity of the deceased.
