Approval recommended for Palmerton projects

The Carbon County Planning Commission gave positive recommendations for the Palmerton Area School District's school improvements projects currently in the works during its meeting last week.

The junior/senior high school campus improvements projects needed two approvals - a land development plan and a lot line revision. The planning commission found in the lot line revision that there were only minor areas of noncompliance with Lower Towamensing's ordinances and recommended plan approval. In the land development plan, the commission found 14 areas that do not conform with Lower Towamensing's subdivision ordinance, including signatures and certifications, letters and permit notices and other minor issues, and recommended conditional plan approval until all items are addressed. The project calls for an addition to the existing junior/senior high school, changing over the track and football field area to a synthetic turf, installing a visitor bleacher section, building a new softball field, rehabilitating the parking areas and various other improvements in the schools to improve safety and security of the students. In other matters, the planning commission made recommendations on five other area projects.• Herbert E. Vollman received plan approval for a lot line revision in Towamensing Township.• SWJJ Real Estate LLC received plan rejection for a proposed subdivision at 1119 Packer Drive, Packer Township. The plans call for subdividing a 50.0218-acre lot and 50.8080 acres.• Blue Ridge Real Estate - Round Pond Self Storage, Big Boulder Corporation, received plan approval for a proposed land development at Round Pond Road at the Big Boulder Maintenance/Sewage treatment facility in Kidder Township.
