Kidder Township to add new police cruiser, ambulance

During Thursday evening's Kidder Township Supervisors meeting, it was announced that the township had received a grant to help fund a new police vehicle.

Police Chief Matthew Kuzma said the car will be delivered sometime in early September. The supervisors also approved the release of $40,962 to the Lake Harmony Rescue Squad and Ambulance Corp. for the purchase of a new ambulance. The funds come from money that the township budgets for yearly in anticipation of the needs of the emergency services. The board also agreed to re-advertise for the light on Route 903 and Lake Drive. The recent bid cycle brought in no bids. The board assumed that it was because of the timing and is readjusting the completion date from February 2017 to Aug. 31, 2017.During public comment, Lake Harmony Fire Chief Ralph Lennon mentioned that while he knows that no one wants to add yet another ordinance, he is concerned about the number of low-hanging trees throughout the township.According to Lennon, these trees are located on township, private and state roads and as they become more overgrown the clearance for the fire apparatus becomes less and less."It might only be a scratch in the paint at first," Lennon said. "That bad enough, but when you get ice on them they hang lower and if you catch a ladder or something, it could get pretty expensive."Lennon was hoping to get the word out so people would consider keeping the trees cut back.Kuzma informed the board that the township has received a large number of complaints recently regarding the use of golf carts on public roads. Kuzma suggested to that possibly putting a sign at the gate at Split Rock that reads "No Golf Carts Beyond This Point" might help with the problem. The township also decided to join the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce at a cost of $375 per year."I think the chamber in this area is doing a fabulous job," said supervisor Thomas LaFond. "I think this is money well-spent."
