Body recovered from river near Glen Onoko

The body of an unidentified man was recovered from the Lehigh River Wednesday evening, authorities have confirmed.

The body was found in the river just north of Jim Thorpe Borough, near the Glen Onoko parking area.

Authorities said the man was with a group of people spending the afternoon at Glen Onoko when he reportedly went missing in the river around 4 p.m.

They had not released his name as of Wednesday night. But a deputy with the Carbon County Coroner's Office said that he had traveled to the area from out of state.

The deputy, Gerald Jones Jr., said he did not know whether the man was swimming or diving prior to disappearing under the water.

Tourists at Glen Onoko said that the man suffered a medical emergency prior to going under. Johnson said he did not know at the time if that was the case.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is conducting an investigation into how the man died.

An autopsy will be scheduled.
