Carbon man admits assault on officer

A Carbon County man pleaded guilty in the county court on Thursday to a charge of aggravated assault on a police officer.

Adam Edward Crowley, 33, of Lehighton, also entered a guilty plea to two counts of simple assault for an incident on June 17.Lehighton police were dispatched to the 100 block of North First Street for a report of a disturbance. On scene officers found Crowley outside Bonnie & Clyde Bar and Grille screaming and using profanities. Police learned Crowley had entered the establishment and was told it was not open for business yet. He then became abusive to employees in the bar and went outside using obscenities.When police attempted to place him under arrest he struggled with the officers. When he was being taken to a police cruiser, he spit saliva and blood on officer Bruce Broyles. Before his arrest he assaulted two employees of the bar.President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II accepted the pleas but deferred sentencing ordering the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.Crowley is currently an inmate in the county prison on the charges.
