Open house
The Tamaqua Area School District's two elementary schools will host open house events on Aug. 22 before the beginning of the 2016-17 school year. Teachers will conduct informational sessions, two per grade, at specific times.Times for Tamaqua elementary will be: kindergarten, 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.; first grade, 6:15 and 6:45 p.m.; second grade, 6:30 and 7 p.m.; third grade, 7:30 and 8 p.m.; fourth grade, 7:45 and 8:15 p.m.; fifth grade, 8 and 8:30 p.m.West Penn Elementary's times will be; kindergarten and third grade, 6 and 7 p.m.; first and fourth grades, 6:15 and 7:15 p.m.; second and fifth grades, 6:30 and 7:30 p.m.Classes for the new school year begin on Aug. 29.Museum hoursThe Tamaqua Historical Society Museum is now open limited hours during the week.Summer hours will be in effect through Oct. 31 and include: Thursdays and Fridays, 3-8 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.Special tours are also available by appointment.For more information, email
