Police capture man on stolen UTV

State police at Lehighton have captured a Palmerton man who was driving a utility task vehicle around Hahns Dairy and adjoining roads in Lower Towamensing Township.

At 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, police received information of a stolen Honda CYL UTV driving Hahns Dairy Road, and state troopers in the area started pursuing him.The suspect, Stephen Holmes, 31, was traveling west on Hahns Dairy Road and turned right onto Walnut Road, where he dumped the vehicle and ran into a heavily-wooded area.Troopers chased him into a field where the troopers caught up with Holmes, took him into custody, and transported to Palmerton Hospital for suspicion of DUI.Holmes was then transported to the state police barracks at Lehighton, and admitted to committing between 30-40 burglaries in the area, including stealing the Honda UTV he was driving during a burglary on Strohl Valley Road in June.Holmes was arraigned by District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford, who set bail at $150,000 straight.Holmes was then transported to Carbon County Prison.A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 17 at the office of District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.
