Man charged with killing his father

A Northampton Bborough man has been charged with shooting and killing his father early Tuesday morning.

According to the criminal complaint obtained from Magisterial District Judge Robert Hawke's office, Jason John Myirski, 36, was charged Tuesday morning during an arraignment before Hawke with one count of criminal homicide for causing the death of his father, Joseph Myirski Jr.Northampton Borough Police Chief Ronald Morey said borough officers responded to a 3:17 a.m. call of multiple shots fired at the Myirski home, 2350 Main St.Morey said when officers arrived at the scene, they heard shots fired. They entered the residence and found Myirski in an upstairs bedroom and were successful in getting him to surrender after another shot was fired in the bedroom he was in.Police officers found Joseph Myirski upstairs, deceased, the complaint said.The complaint also said the firearm was located by a police officer in the same room as Myirski and was secured by police.Attempts to resuscitate Joseph Myirski were unsuccessful.Lehigh Township and North Catasauqua Borough police also responded to the call Tuesday morning, Morey said.The homicide is currently being investigated by both borough police and Pennsylvania State Police.Morey said he could not release any further details of the homicide.According to Hawke's office, Myirski indicated he possibly suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder."It was something that was mentioned in the hearing, but there is no documentation," the office staff member said. "It might come up in the investigation, but at this point, there's nothing."Myirski was ordered to Northampton County Prison without bail by Hawke.
