West Penn Township may consider the adoption of the International Property Maintenance Code to address property issues.

Resident and former township Supervisor Timothy Houser recently expressed his concerns to the board of supervisors about properties along Mush Dahl Road.Bill Anders, the township's zoning officer, was present and discussed the benefits associated with thecode with the board.Supervisor Anthony Prudenti asked Anders, "Does this give us more teeth?"Prudenti then read off a substantial list of properties that he questioned Anders about, which Anders then reviewed with the board."Would your job be easier if we adopted an International Property Maintenance Code?" Prudenti asked.Anders said that it would, asthe code facilitates action quicker, and added that a fee schedule could also be adopted.However, Prudenti said he would still like board solicitor Holly Heintzelman to look the matter over."Thank you for the great job you're doing," Prudenti said to Anders.After the meeting, Prudenti said that from the beginning of this year through June 30, the township has had 36 complaints. Of those, he said 21 have been addressed.Block grantThe board also recently approved the budget for Community Development Block Grant for fiscal year 2016.The total grant amount is $86,544. Of that, $70,967 will go toward ADA walkway recreation improvements, with the remaining $15,577 going toward administration costs.
