A Carbon County man, who previously admitted assaulting two state troopers in separate incidents, was sentenced on Monday in the county court to a state prison term.

Eric Christopher Cardone, 36, of 105 Homestead Lane, Towamensing Township, was sentenced to serve a total of one year and three days to two years in a state correctional institution by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II. Cardone was sentenced on charges of aggravated assault, institutional vandalism, resisting arrest, criminal mischief, driving under the influence and three counts of simple assault.The first assault incident occurred on Aug. 25, 2015, when troopers from the Lehighton barracks responded to Cardone's residence for a report of a domestic incident.On scene, troopers were told by the female victim she had been assaulted by Cardone. Troopers placed him under arrest and attempted to place him into a state police cruiser.He struggled with the troopers and tried to kick trooper Michael Sofranko.After being placed in the cruiser he then kicked and caused damages to a window of the cruiser.On Oct. 5, 2015, troopers were again dispatched to the residence for another reported domestic incident.On scene, troopers observed injuries to the female victim. Again Cardone resisted arrest and struggled with officers while being placed in a cruiser.He kicked trooper Robert Kirby in that incident.The DUI occurred on June 13, 2014, along Route 2007. Franklin Township police filed the charges and reported a test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Cardone, who has been in jail for almost a year on the charges, told Nanovic he had a drug abuse problem and has taken every course available to him in the county prison.Nanovic noted that Cardone has had other criminal offenses including other assault cases.On the DUI charge Cardone was fined $1,000 and had his license suspended for a year.He was also ordered to pay court costs of about $1,000, get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and supply a DNA sample.He was given credit for 350 days spent in prison on the charges.
