Palmerton Area High School Principal Paula Husar said she is returning to work Monday and intends to remain in her job.

The school board has come under fire in the past few weeks as residents started an online petition in support of her."My doctor told me that I should be able to return to work on Monday, Aug. 8," Husar said on the petition page at change.org.Husar has been on sick leave after a 2015-16 evaluation, which included an unsatisfactory overall rating from Superintendent Scot Engler and scores of zero out of three ratings in multiple performance categories. She released part of the evaluation on the website.Residents filled the Palmerton school board meeting room Tuesday night in her support."I can't tell you how many people have been calling me and texting me. As I listen to or read each message, I can't help but realize just how great a community Palmerton is," Husar said in a letter posted on the petition site Thursday night."I love being your high school principal and have every intention of being there this year, too," Husar wrote.Board President Tammy Recker on Tuesday said she couldn't go in depth on the ins and outs of what was discussed with the mediator concerning Husar, but said the board is looking for a positive resolution.Recker said, "Every employee is someone we value. We don't want anybody to leave. I'm a firm believer that nothing is so broke you can't fix it."Contacted Friday, Recker said, "We are looking forward to Mrs. Husar's return."In her letter, Husar concluded, "Go Blue Bombers!!!"
