Lower Towamensing Township will receive $30,000 to help with the purchase of a roadside boom mower. The township is replacing its current mower, which is no longer able to cut overgrown vegetation on its 29.25 miles of roads. The new piece of equipment will be able to reach 24 feet to cut and clear vegetation along guide rails and steep banks.

The supervisors made the decision to pursue the mower at their July meeting."I think we are in good shape with our trucks, so we should pursue a new boom mower," said Ronald Walbert, chairman of the township supervisors.Township roadmaster Charles Shupp said the current mower is a 2004 model. A new mower would make the first pass with the current mower following behind to make a second pass."It had been on hold because of the (state) budget," he said.Because the 2015-16 state budget took longer than normal to pass, funds for grants, schools and other state funded programs were held up.
