Palmerton hires new school nurse
Palmerton Area School District will have a new nurse at its high school this school year.
The school board on Tuesday night unanimously approved hiring Laura Cebrosky Thomas to the position, effective Aug. 29.Her salary is pending contract negotiations.Also by a unanimous vote, the district accepted the resignation of former nurse Maureen Porter, effective June 17.In other action, the board:• Approved a contract with the Safeway Driving School Inc. for July 1 through June 30, 2019.• Approved an Office Basics copy paper quote for the 2016-17 school year at $22.80 per carton.• Removed Kacey Galasso from its substitute teacher list.• Approved a Discovery Streaming Agreement with the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit 21 for the 2016-17 school year.• Approved 2016-17 handbooks for Palmerton Area Junior High School, Palmerton Area High School, Towamensing Elementary School, Parkside Education Center and S.S. Palmer Elementary School.The following advisers were also approved for the 2016-17 school year:Lyndsey Heinrich and Miranda Allen, art club; Robert Falkenstein, Avenger; Thomas Heinick, concert and marching bands; David Kellerman, chess, environmental and souled out clubs; Natalie Madeira, chorus and junior high chorus; Craig Borland, Class of 2017; Michael Gombert, Class of 2018 and gridiron club; Jeana Baumgardt and Travis Fink, Class of 2019 and LEO club; Robert Falkenstein, Class of 2020, video club and yearbook; Brent Harris, drama club and stage maintenance; Jennifer Danzeisen and Kerry Palumbo, Future Business Leaders of America; Jose Elvir, international travelers' club; Whitney Kern, library book club; Jennifer Danzeisen, mock trial; Alex Knoll, National Honor Society; Christine DeLong and Briel Rhoades, student council; Brianna Carroll, National Junior Honor Society; Kevin Kolodziejski, yearbook/newspaper; Kathy Englert and Chris Kerry, student council; and Patti Jo Boyd, ACE.
