Jim Thorpe Blue wins title

Jim Thorpe Blue captured the Panther Valley Little League 9-10 championship this past weekend.

The champs finished the tourney in a three-way tie for first place with Franklin Township White and Tamaqua Blue, which forced a playoff over the weekend.On Saturday, Thorpe defeated FT to reach the title game against Tamaqua. On Sunday, JT Blue wrapped up the crown with a 12-10 victory.PVLL TOURNAMENT9-10 YEAR-OLDSJT Blue-Tamaqua BlueJim Thorpe Blue scored four runs with two outs in the top of the sixth inning Sunday to break a tie and help gain a 12-10 victory over Tamaqua Blue in the championship game of the Panther Valley Little League 9-10 tournament.With the score knotted at 8-8 and Evan Fikentscher on base, Connor Patton hit a two-out double to plate the go-ahead run. Noah Rosahac followed with a triple to score another run, and a wild pitch upped the margin to 11-8. Marcus Drakeford then doubled, and came home moments later on Evan Murphy's single.Down by four, Tamaqua tried to rally in the home half of the sixth.Lucas Kamant singled and raced home on Denny Krell's triple. Krell scored on a ground ball to cut the deficit to two runs. After a walk and a fielder's choice, Jim Thorpe catcher Matt Domski made a nice defensive play on a pop-up in front of the plate to end the game and clinch the title.Rosahac had four hits and knocked in three runs for the winners, while Patton collected three hits and drove in two. Tanner Yurchak contributed two hits and two RBIs. Thorpe, which banged out 16 hits in the contest, also received two hits from Ian Henkels, Murphy and Fikentscher.For Tamaqua, Kamant and Mason Ligenza each had three hits. Luke Kane drilled a homer and knocked in four runs. Krell and Cooper Ansbach added two hits apiece for the runners-up. Tamaqua also turned a key double play in the fourth inning to keep the score close.Rosahac was the starting pitcher for Jim Thorpe Blue, and received strong relief help from Yurchak and Henkels. Yurchak got out of a jam in the fourth with a strikeout, while Henkels closed out the fifth thanks to a catch in the field by Drakeford.JT Blue 331 014 - 12 16Tamaqua Blue 402 022 - 10 13JT Blue-FT WhiteJim Thorpe Blue used a seven-run second inning Saturday to help propel them past Franklin Township White, 13-6, and into the tournament's championship game.Evan Murphy drilled a grand slam during the big frame, while Marcus Drakeford added an RBI single.Noah Rosahac scored three runs for the winners, and Conner Patton had two hits and scored a pair of runs. Tanner Yurchak contributed two hits, an RBI, and run scored.For FT White, Aiden Rarick and Tyler Poole each had RBI triples. Rarick also scored two runs. Austin Greene and Connor McClure chipped in with run-scoring singles.FT Maroon-Tri-CountyVarick Peiffer had two hits, scored two runs, and pitched 3 2/3 solid innings to help Franklin Maroon rally for a 10-8 victory over Tri-County.Hayden Dyer and Carter Birnbaum each added two hits for the winners, who used three runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth to pull out the win.Michael "Ralphie" Geltako delivered the game-winning RBI double in the sixth, while John Light pitched two scoreless innings for the mound win.For Tri-County, Billig had two triples and scored two runs.FT Maroon finished the tournament in fourth place with a 6-3 record.
