July 30, 1956 - Joe "Hokie" Brogan fires a three-hitter to help Jim Thorpe defeat Stroudsburg, 4-1, and claim the District 1 Keystone Amateur Softball Association championship. Brogan walks two and strikes out six in leading his team to the state playoffs. The winners snap a 1-1 tie with three runs in the sixth inning. Steve Snisky's base hit drives in Mike Friel with the go-ahead tally, while Skipper McFadden plates two more with a single. Otts Guth and Jimmy "Buck" Rader each chip in with a hit and run scored.
