Police nab woman headed to park with drugs

A suspected drug dealer was sent to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville on July 20, caught with a large amount of methamphetamine and heroin in her purse when Tamaqua police assisted a state parole agent in executing an outstanding warrant.

The state agent contacted police at 5:10 p.m. after he received a tip that Crystal Joy Milner, 30, of 231 Pine St., Tamaqua, was on her way to the East End Playground, saying he had an active warrant for her arrest.Officers were on their way to the park when they saw Milner and John Smith, 27, walking along the railroad tracks near South Greenwood Street.They caught up to the duo in a wooded area near the train trestle. Smith ran, crossing the Little Schuylkill River, dropping a backpack into the water.Smith, whose last known address was 110 Market St., Tamaqua, was caught on the other side as he got out of the river.He was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia after officers found hypodermic needles in his pocket and backpack.Milner was handcuffed and her purse was searched.Officers found 18 bags of methamphetamine, 52 wax packets containing heroin, empty plastic bags, a bag of rubber bands, a scale and a pack of syringes.The street value of the drugs seized is estimated to be more than $2,000. She also had $515 in cash.Milner was charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.She was arraigned before duty District Judge James Ferrier, who set bail at $10,000 straight cash.
