Teenagers hurt in Monroe bus crash

A motor vehicle accident in Monroe County early Friday morning remains under investigation.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department said the incident occurred at 2:23 a.m. Friday along Route 423 south of Route 196 in Coolbaugh Township.At that time, officers were dispatched to the motor vehicle accident, where it was reported that a bus, driven by Bernard Zitronenbaum, 32, of Brooklyn, New York, had rolled over and several people were entrapped.The bus landed on the driver's side.One teenage male was trapped. He was extricated by Coolbaugh Township Fire Department personnel.Eight teenagers were transported to hospitals for treatment.The teen who had been trapped was flown to Lehigh Valley Medical Center due to more serious injuries.Zitronenbaum, the driver, and five other teenagers on the bus were not injured.Police said the bus had been traveling north on Route 423 when it failed to properly negotiate the right curve, causing it to roll into its driver's side and slide on the roadway until it came to rest.No charges have been filed as of noon Friday.
