Route 93 in Nesquehoning (Hunter St.) is shut down due to a motor vehicle accident that is believed to be fatal.

The crash occurred around 4 p.m. on Route 93 near the entrance to the Carbon County Correctional Facility, according to Carbon County 911 dispatchers.

A vehicle carrying six people, adults and children, reportedly struck a tree. At least two people were trapped in the rear of the vehicle.

The county coroner was called to the scene. There are reports that two passengers were killed in the crash.

Two medevac helicopters were en route to the scene at 4:30 p.m.

Firefighters from Nesquehoning, Hauto and New Columbus, fire police from Nesquehoning, Hauto New Columbus and Weatherly responded, as well as Lehighton Ambulance.
