The West Penn Lions and Lioness clubs will sponsor the annual West Penn Senior Fun Day. The fun-filled day will be Aug. 6 at the West Penn Community Park. Activities will begin at 11:30 a.m.The event is free and open to all township residents age 62 and older.The day will include free entertainment, free food, informational sessions, games and lots of fellowship.Preregistration is required for food preparation purposes. To register, call Melissa at 570-386-4138 no later than July 29.The event will be held rain or shine.TAFFN celebrationThe Tamaqua Area Faith and Fellowship Network will present Summer Celebration 2016 on Aug. 14 at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St.The evening of music and fellowship will begin at 7 p.m.Music will be presented by the Blue Mountain Community Church Praise Band, led by Pastor Jennifer Eckhart. The group has frequently performed for the local American Cancer Society Telethon. The band's playlist contains traditional hymns as well as contemporary songs. A singalong will be included.Brief messages will be offered by representatives of the TAFFN and the Tamaqua Ministerial Association.An ice cream social will follow the program and free will offerings will be accepted.Visit the organization's website at

www.taffn.org for more information.Summer concertThe Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce's 10th annual free summer concert series continues July 21 with an evening of oldies presented by Fred Douglas.Concerts are held from 6-8 p.m. Thursdays throughout the summer on the platform of the historic Tamaqua Train Station.Upcoming concerts include July 28, D'Lite Side, standards and show tunes; Aug. 4, Crossroads Duo, acoustic blues and blues rock; Aug. 11, Whiskey Creek Acoustic, classic rock and blues; Aug. 18, Christopher Dean Band, rhythm and blues; and Sept. 1, Diaspora, classic rock.Anyone planning to attend is welcome to bring a lawn chair or make a reservation at the new Tamaqua Station Restaurant.Concerts are weather permitting.Tamaqua seniorsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens met July 14 with 62 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session.Ruthann Feane provided the inspirational reading "Who Makes a Garden."A moment of silence was held in honor of Helen Honsch. Gloria Gerhart and Ted Correll were welcomed back.The meeting included a pizza party. Upcoming events include: Aug. 11, picnic at the West Penn Rod and Gun Club in Clamtown; Sept. 22, fundraiser chicken/beef dinner.The group meets at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts officiates at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday services in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church.
