Kane's office settles sister's lawsuit with raise, $80K

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane's office is giving her twin sister a 19 percent raise, plus $80,000 to settle a federal labor complaint against the agency.

Kane's hand-picked legal chief Bruce L. Castor Jr. told The Morning Call of Allentown (http://bit.ly/2aa3vzg ) on Tuesday he settled Ellen Granahan's Equal Employment Opportunity Commission complaint because he didn't think the office could prevail in court. The cash payment is for back pay, attorneys' fees and damages for emotional distress.Castor says he concluded that Granahan had been discriminated against because she's Kane's sister. Granahan was hired in 2008 by then-Attorney General Tom Corbett and promoted after Kane took office in 2013.The 50-year-old Granahan now has a salary of $105,000 as a chief deputy attorney general in charge of the child predator unit.---Information from: The Morning Call,
