Several new hires and contracts were confirmed at Pleasant Valley School District's board meeting on Thursday.

John T. Burrus, Human Resources, presented a list of personnel to be hired under regular employment.Heather Smeraldo was hired as an elementary school teacher for fourth grade at Pleasant Valley Intermediate at a salary of $41,800. Smeraldo will start employment Aug. 23.Lisa Rose has been hired as a long-term substitute for special education at Pleasant Valley High School. Her contract will run from Aug. 23 through Jan. 2. Rose's salary will be $41,800, prorated.Pleasant Valley Elementary has hired Daniel Costenbader as a special education teacher with a salary of $41,800. His employment will begin Aug. 23.Business manager Susan Famularo presented several contracts for approval as well.A contract was approved for Engle, Hambright & Davies Inc. and Chubb & Son Inc. to cover administrative and board travel accident insurance for $3,000. The contract will run from Aug 30, 2016, to Aug. 30, 2019.A contract for 80 Rosetta Stone licenses for the district's 2016-17 was approved in the amount of $8,720 per year.Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 was approved for a contract of 10 months, at $20 per month, plus a fee of $1.30 per minute for interpreting service. The contract will run from Aug. 31 through June 20, 2017.Physio-Control Inc. was approved for a contract at $5,304. This will cover the technical service support agreed for the district's automated external defibrillators from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2017.A contract for Coordinated Health Second Addendum, at the cost of $25 per coach per class, will cover athletic training services for first aid and CPR/AED training.Renaissance Learning was approved for a contract in the amount of $11,327.50 for Star Math Assessment Software.Furthermore, an item from the June 23, 2016, meeting expenditures was rescinded and reintroduced. Previously, the board had approved the purchase of a 2016 Ford Utility Police Interceptor AWD with a trade, with the cost not to exceed $27,000. The new version increases the vehicle cost to $30,000 and eliminates the note for a trade.
